What To Expect
Driving through the picturesque Island countryside you will view rolling farmlands, coastal views, and villages coming to life as author Lucy Maud described them in her novels. Your local Driver Guide will bring the scenery alive with history, facts, and stories about the areas as you pass by and visit. You will enjoy your first stop of the day at Silver Bush, and the Anne of Green Gables Museum owned by the descendants of Lucy Maud, the Campbell family who are her cousins.
The homestead was built in 1872 by her Uncle John and Aunt Annie Campbell. It is also the setting for her novel “Anne’s Lake of Shining Waters.” The house still belongs to L.M Montgomery’s family, the Campbells, and you will immediately see why she called it the “wonder castle of my childhood.”
You will have the opportunity to explore the homestead, and the beautiful flower gardens, and enjoy views of the Lake of Shining Waters.
On our way to the next stop, we will make a photo stop at French River, one of the most photographed places on the Island. You will also make a photo stop at Montgomery’s birthplace in New London which has been preserved as a historic site.
No Anne Adventure would be complete without a visit to the charming Green Gables House, the National historic site, the old farm site that inspired the first Anne of Green Gables novel. Located in Cavendish, the area that was the inspiration for the village of Avonlea in many of Lucy Maud’s novels.
You will be able to enjoy the well-kept gardens as well as tour the main farmhouse, barns, outbuildings, and extensive grounds. Admission to the Green Gable sites is not included but can be prearranged by request at the time of booking. On your return to Charlottetown, a trip through the national park and the fishing village of North Rustico will complete your day.
