Sunrise Festival Package

Travel on Selected date: January

Day 1: Edmonton to Inuvik

Let your winter adventure begin by flying North on Friday morning traveling on First Air from the great city of Edmonton Alberta, flying two degrees north of the Arctic Circle to the Beaufort-Delta community of Inuvik. After nearly 30 days of darkness, celebrate the return of the sun with the Annual Inuvik Sunrise Festival. Once you land in Inuvik you will be picked up and shuttled to your hotel to start off your Sunrise weekend.

After you have checked in, take the time to discover the different community activities that are a part of the Sunrise Festival. Be sure not to miss Opening Ceremonies and the Inuvialuit Drum Dancers that usually take to the stage on a Friday night, entertaining residents and guests alike, with their stories and dance, an experience not to be missed.

Day 2: Sunrise Festival

Wake up to a cup of fresh coffee with the locals, as you enjoy a free community breakfast at the local Legion. On Saturday the Sunrise Festival is in full swing, so get involved in one of the many activities like snow carving or lantern making. Sitting back and observing more your style? Take in the local Skidoo Parade or drop by one of the local stores or cafes to warm up.

Don’t forget to head over to the Midnight Sun Complex for some local food and crafts at the indoor Arctic Market. Saturday is your day to explore Inuvik at your leisure, so get out there and explore this vibrant northern town. Saturday night locals turn up the heat with a party on the permafrost.

An Ice Road village glowing with lanterns, warming & food tents, and a large Igloo sits on top of a frozen lake. After you’ve taken in the land of snow and ice, head across the street. An enormous bonfire and incredible fireworks display will warm your senses. If it’s a clear night, don’t forget to watch for the Aurora overhead.

Day 3: Winter Activity Excursion

Sunday, you can sleep in, or if you’ve booked a tour, prepare to explore our frozen Arctic lakes and hills. Perhaps you have chosen dogsledding or snowmobiling as your winter tour option. No matter what activity you choose be prepared for an afternoon of unforgettable outdoor adventure in Canada’s Western Arctic.

Looking to get out and meet the locals, come on down to the Ice Road Village where vendors will be selling hot food and drinks to keep you warm. Be sure to bring your camera, so you can grab a photo of one of the most northerly sunrises in Canada. Lots to do so little time.

Day 4: Breakfast in Inuvik, Dinner in Edmonton

Enjoy your last morning above the Arctic Circle in Inuvik. Don’t forget to bring a little piece of the North back home with you. Check out our local craft & gift stores where our friendly local retailers will help you choose the perfect memento from your trip before checking in for your return southbound flight to Edmonton.
